Lily & Ben - April '24

Updated: Jul 11

Lily and Ben’s big day has finally arrived!

B&L were excited about a spring-time wedding from the moment they started discussing wedding dates. Lily had a clear vision of florals and pretty pastel colours but was sensibly cautious of how her ideas may translate to the barn.

The day before the wedding was spent in the barn bringing the vision to life. The Main Barn was swathed in hanging soft ecru drapes and fresh flowers were tied to the chair lining the aisle to provide a gorgeous pop of spring colour.

Being a blank canvas with backdrops of whitewashed, flintwork and dark wood cladded walls, the barn can support strong, vivid colours. Colourful decor can provide great impact, reducing the amount of pieces needed to carry the scheme throughout the venue.

Embracing the season also means that the grounds reflect the scheme, meaning it is carried throughout photographs taken outside too. The hedgerows lining the approach to the barn and edging the lawn were scattered with spring blossom giving a great prelude to the decorations in the barn.

In the Woodshed, dining tables were laid with soft linen coloured napkins, antiqued brass cutlery, pressed flowers and beautiful hand-crafted ceramic place names. Old glass bottles were filled with colourful spring blooms and alternated along the tables with brass candlesticks  holding coloured candles. The gorgeous mix of pastel colours really brought the room to life.

The floral theme was carried through to the cake which was a three tiered beauty adorned with colourful pressed flowers and perched on a pastel blue cake stand. A fabric guest book embroidered with florals sat alongside the cake and had pages already assigned to guests of honour, awaiting messages of love and support.

With everything in place, Lily and her entourage retired to the Old Coach House to enjoy an evening together looking forward to the day ahead.

They were joined by hair and make up artists the following morning to begin preparations on a gloriously sunny (albeit a little windy!) day. Lovely weather for an April spring day!

Lily was breathtaking in a 20s inspired full length satin gown with full sleeves, glorious Hollywood waves and the most striking large emerald earrings. An absolute vision! Her lovely bridesmaids were in blush satin gowns and all held loose bouquets of beautiful mixed meadow garden flowers with varying colours and textures.

The wind did have its advantages, ensuring that the post-ceremony confetti photographs were very lively!  Lily and Ben’s vision meant that they were drawn to a photographer whose portfolio shows a love of bright and colourful images. It is really important to ask to view a full wedding album from a photographer when considering their services to get a really good feel for their style and how that works with making the most of your vision for the day.

There were lots of special moments for L&B’s photographer to capture as guests enjoyed celebrating this fabulous couple’s marriage with them. A wonderful sunny day for such a sunny couple!
