Beth and Dan’s May wedding was the perfect marriage of relaxed elegance and whimsical charm with soft neutral tones, delicate florals, and quirky personal touches that made it completely unforgettable.
The couple opted for a neutral colour palette that complemented the barn’s natural beauty. Think soft ivory, warm beige and gentle taupe. These colours were echoed throughout the day—from the flowing bridesmaids’ dresses to the hand-tied posies and even the table settings. The result was a look that felt timeless and serene, letting the venue’s rustic textures and the season’s gentle light shine through.
Inside the barn, soft ivory draping created a romantic canopy overhead, filtering the afternoon sun and adding a softness to the wooden beams. The delicate florals—featuring seasonal favourites like poppies, delphiniums and ranunculus—were styled in wild, garden-inspired arrangements with lots of texture and movement.
Stylised signage added personality and polish to the day. Welcome board, table plan, and wedding breakfast menus were designed with retro-inspired typography and soft colour washes. Ivory ribbons with guest names were tied in bows around cut crystal glasses on each place setting and alongside antiqued gold candlesticks with tall taper candles, lent a luxe old-world charm to the overall décor. These thoughtful details helped guide guests through the day while reinforcing the couple’s carefully curated aesthetic.
Lighting played a key role in creating the atmosphere of the day. During the ceremony, quirky giant pendant lights with filament bulbs hung from the rafters, adding a warm golden glow, while festoon lighting swagged over dining tables. A personalised neon sign hung behind the Top table, announcing the newlyweds as ‘The Simpsons’. It was the kind of lighting that made everything feel intimate, even with a crowd of loved ones gathered together.
The May weather was on its best behaviour - warm with a soft breeze and bright blue skies - perfect for drinks and canapés on the lawn. Guests gathered on the lawn with glasses of fizz in hand, chatting and laughing against a soundtrack of a fantastic string quartet.
As guests made their way into the barn for the wedding breakfast, the mood was both excited and emotional. The speeches were heartfelt and hilarious in equal measure ahead of a spectacular menu of barbecued piri piri chicken and delicious sides.
And then there was the cake: A three-tiered retro masterpiece! Decorated with scalloped buttercream piping in soft cream and kitschy-cute bright red cherries. It was a nod to vintage wedding cakes of the 70s and 80s but the summery flavours were anything but old-fashioned: lemon and elderflower, caramel with salted caramel buttercream and white chocolate with raspberry and white chocolate ganache.
As the sun dipped below the hills, the evening transformed into a lively celebration with guests spilling out onto the courtyard for freshly fired pizzas around the fire pit. Inside, the DJ took to the decks, and the barn came alive with energy. A carefully curated playlist kept the dance floor packed from the first dance to the final encore. Alongside the dancefloor, a photo booth with vintage props and a retro backdrop provided endless entertainment, capturing candid moments and making for a fun guestbook full of silly snapshots.
Congratulations Beth and Dan! For couples dreaming of a springtime barn wedding, this day proved that you can have it all: relaxed rural vibes, chic styling, and a party to remember.
