There’s something special about August in the countryside — golden light, long evenings, and a feeling that time slows down just a little. For one unforgettable weekend this summer, our barn became the backdrop for a wedding that was both bold and deeply personal. A celebration full of dramatic design choices, relaxed garden moments, and heartfelt details — all wrapped in the warmth of late summer.
From the very beginning, this couple had a clear vision. They wanted contrast and character, texture and simplicity. They wanted to make the day entirely their own. And they did just that — with a palette that shifted between monochrome drama and earthy warmth, and styling choices that brought personality into every corner of the space.
The ceremony took place in the main barn, which had been transformed into something truly striking. Floor-to-ceiling black and white drapes swept from the beams, creating a layered, theatrical setting that somehow still felt soft and welcoming. The monochrome palette brought a sense of modern elegance into the rustic structure — unexpected, and completely breathtaking.
Suspended above the ceremony space was a dramatic overhead installation of giant smoky glass filament bulbs. Their soft, warm glow was magical — bold yet romantic.
Lining the aisle and framing the altar were an array of rustic vessels the couple had lovingly collected over time. From enamel jugs to huge earthenware pots, each was filled with DIY arrangements of pampas grass, dried seed heads, and foraged dried foliage. Together they created a textured, natural installation that softened the monochrome backdrop and brought the outdoors in.
After the ceremony, guests flowed out onto the lawn for drinks, canapés, and garden games. Lawn games brought out some healthy competition, and trays of sparkling wine and seasonal bites circulated as guests mingled.
It wasn’t long before an informal round of speeches began in the garden. With a glass in one hand and the garden as their stage, members of the bridal party stood to say a few words — unrehearsed, emotional, and full of love.
As guests were invited inside for dinner in the Woodshed, the styling continued the warm, earthy feel. Three long rustic wooden tables ran the length of the room, dressed with burnt orange linen runners that added depth and richness. Soft green glassware provided the perfect contrast echoing the natural tones of the surrounding countryside.
The meal itself was an Asian inspired menu with a special dessert of Chocolate Water Mousse - the dessert that the couple shared on their first date. Between courses, there was laughter, clinking glasses, and that joyful hum that fills a room when everyone is truly present in the moment.
After dinner, guests gathered around to watch the couple cut their cake — a beautiful, simple tiered creation that reflected the styling of the day with dried fruit accents and a natural finish. Not long after, the first notes of their chosen song were played by the band, and the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance. It was one of those moments where time seemed to pause — the barn glowing with soft light, music filling the room, and everyone watching with full hearts.
As the evening unfolded, the band kept the energy high, and the dance floor quickly filled. Outside, a pizza truck set up by the fire pit, serving fresh slices straight from the oven to guests who needed a little late-night fuel. The fire crackled as people gathered around with cocktails in hand.
This August wedding was the perfect blend of big, bold design and relaxed, meaningful celebration. Every space told a part of the couple’s story — from the striking ceremony setup to the collected vessels and DIY florals, to the informal speeches and firelit pizzas. It’s weddings like this that remind us what a barn can become when a couple brings their full selves to it — not just their plans, but their energy, their laughter, and their love.
