Fern & Gary - Aug '24

Fern and Gary visited Curds Hall Barn with no set ideas about their wedding day but we felt that they already had more of a plan than they realised.

This, totally loved up couple, were determined to be true to themselves and their love story from the very beginning and opted for an intimate wedding with a cherished guest list.

Initially concerned with how a smaller wedding would work in a space that can accommodate up to 200 guests, Fern and Gary considered all of our advice on how to achieve a warm and welcoming atmosphere and planned their decorations accordingly. With the right advice on how to use the space, there are many advantages to a more conservative sized wedding celebration.

The biggest appeal for those who opt for a smaller guest list is that it allows them more time to spend with those people on the day. Couples often feel the pressure to ‘work the room’ on their wedding day ensuring that they have found time to speak to all of their guests who have made an effort to attend and be part of the celebrations. While you will want to spend time with your guests, the pressure of getting around everyone can feel a little exhausting for some and can find you cutting conversations short to move on to the next person.

Fewer guests to organise also impacts the logistics of the day. Ordinarily, small things such as finding the next group of guests for your photographs, seating guests for the Wedding Breakfast and gathering guests for the cutting of the cake all need to be assigned time to organise. However, as guest numbers decrease, the amount of time needed to achieve these crucial parts of the day decreases. This allows more flexibility in the timeline and gives you more time to savour each part of the day. Most importantly, it helps you to carve out more time to spend together, as a married couple, on the day.

Gary and Fern’s guests enjoyed the most relaxed drink reception that saw friends and family catching up and spending time together as a large group which was exactly the vibe they were hoping to achieve. The group bonded and enjoyed each other’s company throughout the day, into the evening and into the following day.

While people often assume that a smaller wedding reduces costs, more importantly, it allows more flexibility on how your budget is assigned. You are able to increase your spend per guest meaning that you could splurge on a 4 or 5 course wedding breakfast, or if that sounds too formal for you, then why not go fo a decadent afternoon tea with all the trimmings and plenty of Champagne to wash it down, just like Gary and Fern did.

It may also become an option to offer a free bar for the evening or to organise a bell tent village so that guests can really embrace the party and extend their time with you, gathering again the following day to exchange stories!

Gary and Fern’s plans came together to result in the most decadent, yet down to earth, celebration of the very obvious adoration they have for each other. They achieved their aim of an intimate day surrounded by those who they love, and who love them, the most and filled with personal touches, unique to them.
