Nella & Luke - July '22

We have always admired Nella and Luke’s relaxed approach to their wedding planning journey; they trusted their team of suppliers and fully embraced advice, guidance and fresh ideas.

Open to the possibility of an outdoor ceremony, and taking advantage of a change in guidance from the Registrars, we were super excited to be hosting Nella and Luke’s ceremony underneath the Old Oak tree.

The key to planning an outdoor ceremony is to always be realistic and manage your expectations from the onset. Although we would love to guarantee every couple could marry in the open air, the great British weather has the final decision (along with the registrars!) so it is always good to have in the back of your mind what would happen if that was not possible. With a legal ceremony, every venue has the responsibility of having an indoor space set until the final decision has been made so both an indoor and outdoor setting should be ready for when the registrars arrive. Chat through your decor plans with your venue so that they know what the plan is if there is a last minute change in location and your visual concept needs to be reworked.

Like with most summer weddings this year, Nella and Luke’s wedding day was amidst the national heatwave and therefore, their outdoor ceremony was pretty much guaranteed. We welcomed Anna of Fox and Fern for the first time to CHB who produced some stunning floristry for both the ceremony, dining and lounging spaces. The milk churns that started the aisle walk were transferred to the entrance of the Woodshed, the ceremony arch was moved behind top table to frame Nella and Luke during the wedding breakfast whilst the oversized glass vases with pampas and eucalyptus were added to window sills and doorways to really get the most out of these gorgeous pieces.

‘Flower Men’ seem to be a new trend for the industry on TikTok this season so Nella and Luke jumped on board and chose two of their friends to dance down the aisle throwing confetti from hot pink bum bags. It was then time for the official bridal party to make their entrance and for Luke to finally be reunited with his Bride to be.

Once married, guests and the happy couple headed towards the rear lawn where Pimms and canapes were served in the afternoon sunshine to the sweet sounds of the Kavolini string quartet.

Before long, it was time for afternoon tea to be served, enjoyed with chilled glasses of bubbly. Couples can’t believe how quickly the day goes and how fast being seated for the wedding breakfast comes around so our advice would be to steal 5 or 10 minutes to yourself to soak in the day so far - you’ll thank us for it later and in years to come!

Welcoming more of their nearest and dearest to celebrate for the evening, Nella and Luke took to the dancefloor for the first time as Mr and Mrs before dancing the night away.
